Pheasant Tail – Copper Bead Tan Collar

Catégorie :
Pheasant Tail – Copper Bead Tan Collar A deeper-running pheasant tail variation with a subtle tan-yellow thorax twist — built for high water, deeper pools, and anglers who believe in carrying more than one version of a classic. This is another spinoff of the pheasant tail and the latest one we’ve added to our pheasant tail lineup. You really cannot have enough variations of pheasant tails, especially when small changes in color and profile can make a big difference on the water. This version stays true to the proven foundation of the pattern, but the little thorax dubbing is where it separates itself from the norm. Instead of the usual peacock herl or green prism-style dubbing, this one uses a more offset tan-yellowish dubbing around the collar. That softer thorax tone gives the fly a different look without taking away from the natural fishiness that makes pheasant tails so dependable. Paired with a copper bead, this size 14 variation is a very good choice for higher water and deeper pools where you want a fly that gets down and still keeps that classic buggy profile trout trust. Key Features• Size 14• Copper bead for added depth and sink rate• Classic pheasant tail profile with a unique tan-yellow thorax collar• Different look than standard peacock or green prism thorax versions• A strong addition to any angler’s pheasant tail lineup When to Fish It• High water conditions when trout are holding deeper• Deeper pools where you need a fly that gets down efficiently• Any time pheasant tails are producing and you want to show fish a slightly different version• Clear to slightly stained water where subtle color changes can matter• When you want another confidence variation of a proven nymph pattern How to Fish It• Fish it under an indicator or as part of a two-fly nymph rig• Dead drift it near the bottom through deeper runs, seams, and pools• Let the copper bead help carry the fly into the strike zone• Fish it as the lead fly when you want a slightly heavier pheasant tail variation up front• A very good option when standard pheasant tails need a little different look How to Rig It• Fish it with split shot adjusted to current speed and depth• Pair it with a smaller midge, soft hackle, or trailing nymph• 4X to 5X is a strong starting point for most tailwater situations• Size 14 gives it enough profile and weight to be especially useful in bigger or deeper water Why This Pattern WorksThis pattern works because it takes a fly trout already trust and gives it a subtle twist. The tan-yellow thorax collar changes the look just enough to separate it from more common pheasant tail variations tied with peacock or green prism dubbing. Add in the copper bead for depth, and you have a pattern that is very well suited for high water, deeper pools, and anglers who understand that you really cannot have too many good pheasant tail variations.
